Crawford County Genealogy Publications:
Now Available on CD!!
Do you have an ancestor that lived in Crawford County during his/her lifetime? Do you ever wonder what life was like for your ancestor during the years that they lived here? Do you wish you had all the free time it would take to visit the libraries daily and read the old microfilmed newspapers for hours on end, and just see what you might be able to find concerning your ancestors? Perhaps a legal notice, an advertisement, a mention of even the smallest significance to anyone but yourself is what you'd like to find?
Well you don't have to go to those efforts! I have purchased a microfilm reader and several rolls of microfilmed newspapers from the Crawford County area and have gone through some of these already, carefully extracting any genealogical information from them and transcribing them into book form. This makes for some easy reading and unbelievable learning of Crawford County, her citizens, her neighbors and her history.
Any one who has attempted to research their roots in Crawford County knows that the records are extremely had to come by for the years up to 1877. And the state didn't require a death record until 1914 but even at that time, the law was not enforced and many of our ancestors simply buried their dead with the use of a local caretaker who did not keep records. Many of our ancestors sleep in unmarked graves which locations may never be known to us. One source of this information that is overlooked is the local newspaper. I have found many deaths and burial mentioned in the newspaper that were recorded nowhere else.
